Capacitors and Capacitance

Chapter-2|Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance| NCERT 12th Physics:

Capacitors and Capacitance:

A capacitor is an arrangement of two conductors separated by an insulating medium that is used to store electric charge and electric energy.

Capacitance of Capacitor:

A capacitor consists of two conductor having charges +Q and -Q. The potential difference between them is V=V₁ -V₂. Here Q is called charge on the capacitor. Note that the charge on capacitor does not mean the total charge given to the capacitor.

The proportionality constant C is called the capacitance of the capacitor.

# The capacitance of a capacitor may be defined as the charge required to be supplied to either of the conductor of the capacitors so as to increase the potential difference between them by unit amount.
